Kendrick Lamar takes it to Compton in the visuals for ‘King Kunta,’ arguably one of the best tracks on his number one album To Pimp A Butterfly.
“I just went back to that same Compton Swap Meet, jumped on the roof of the Compton Swap Meet and shot “King Kunta” there,” Kendrick told MTV News about one scene, where 2Pac shot “California Love.” “And all them kids was out….looking, and a good friend of mine say ‘you was one them kids looking at Pac when he was up here doing that now they looking at you’ and it blew me away. It trip me up…fifteen years later man I’m doing that same thing Pac was doing, right in Compton it’s just a beautiful thing.”
The Director X visuals are indeed a beautiful thing, Kendrick has been known to keep it real in all his videos and this one was no exception. He incorporated his community (foundation) in this video, which kept the vibes of the visuals authentic. He even kept the girls authentic; now these are the types of girls you seen in the hood. Real.
