Toronto emcee and curator, Just John has a new 9-track LP titled Renaissance Boy, which blueprints his journey to opening his own Gallery Space and sheds light on his Scarborough upbringing. The 9-track LP features vocalist like M.I. BLUE, Pheona, Renee and longtime collaborator LOONY, and Shirloq. With production credits from Jeremy Rodney-Hall, Lahghost, Marlon Pusey and Gee Wunder; Renaissance Boy is wide spread display of Just John’s musical influences and lyrical ability.
The Scarborough native spent two years crafting his full-length project. The tape is made out of a collection of stories, struggles and symbols that depict his growing up in a borough East from the downtown core, hustling trying to make a name for himself in the inner city. Simultaneously there is an ever deeper element, where the listener can identify John analyzing how the surroundings of his low-income environment has shaped him and ultimately given him the drive to open Blank Canvas in Toronto, liberating not only himself but the people around him.
“Renaissance Boy is a play on designing your world and holding on to the kid in you, always,” said John. Have a listen to the full-length project and don’t sleep on this talented young artist.
