The single entitled “I’ll Be Here” is the second collaborative effort between GBO and American video director Colin Crowley. The duo first partnered up early in 2013 to produce the successful “My City” video. “I’ll Be Here” takes on a unique cinematic approach that is yet to be seen in Africa. It tells the story of a young Kenyan man (played by Mark Ngumba) endeavouring to reach his goals, battling through neglect and temptation.
Mr. Crowley, who filmed, directed and edited the video said, “I am absolutely in love with this continent and the creativity of its youth. There is an abundance of inspired voices that need to be heard by the rest of the world. Funnily enough, I was not even a fan of hip-hop until I heard GBO’s stuff. His technical ability, his positive and honest message, and most importantly his artistic vision make him a pleasure to work with. This kid is going places.”
The song features up and coming British songstress Leila and was produced by the English house music DJs SBX. According to GBO this is just one out of a number of songs he has made with the duo as a collaborative effort between Miagi Entertainment (GBO’s home studio) and SBX. GBO said, “Miagi is a growing movement in Kenya, but we believe our sound and quality needs to be heard by the rest of the world too. I have been working with a number of international producers – just pushing the limits of this hip-hop genre, incorporating African and European sounds. I know “I’ll Be Here” will influence game for the better.”
